Stream the Olympics and beyond
NBC Sports is a free app, officially released by NBCMedia, that provides countless sporting events for your viewing pleasure. From the 2016 Olympic games to NFL and Nascar, the NBC Sports app pretty much has it all. Not only that, but if you don't want to miss a single event, the app allows you to set, and forget, reminders that will show up as push notifications.
Sleek as an athlete
The app's design is what you might call "meat and potatoes": the only thing that you'll be doing with it, by and large, is watching videos, and that's why there's so much on offer. Once you've entered the same username and password you use with your TV provider, you have access to all of the same offerings you'd get on the big screen, and potentially more. Of particular note is that Comcast Sportsnet customers get regional NBC streaming, with a laser-focus on their local teams. Although there is some video for those without cable or satellite providers to watch, it's ultimately limited, so this is an app to pick up if you already know what you want out of it. Of course, as new event replays are added and new live events start up, you might find yourself wanting – and watching – more.
Don't lag behind
The app's other major features, besides the videos it puts at your fingertips, are all notification-related. You can set the app to remind you when an event is starting, which will also accommodate for any changes in schedule that are beyond your control. If you choose, you can even set the app to turn these reminders into push notifications, ensuring that the moment you look at your phone or tablet, you'll know. Although this could most likely be done with your system clock, the app's implementation of it is far more robust when it comes to live events. However, the app does suffer from problems on some devices. It can be slow to navigate its menus at times, and some users report that the app crashes when they change tabs or sections, although we were unable to reproduce these problems on any device ourselves. Still, because the app provides a wealth of video from NBC that can't be as easily obtained from any other app, it's probably worth bearing with its problems until you're watching the big game.
A great way to play catch-up
Assuming you qualify to use the app, and have even the slightest interest in watching sports on the go, the NBC Sports app provides everything you need to do it. There's no dearth of content to be enjoyed, both prerecorded and live, and once you set a reminder, you don't have to worry about missing the latter. Although the app itself does have a few blemishes, these are less of a problem once video playback has started – and that's most of the time you'll be using the app.
